We are Ron and Mary Bitner, just a couple of kids enjoying all of what southwest Idaho has to offer.
Bitner Vineyards consists of 14 acres of premium vinifera wine grapes. First plantings in 1981 consisted of Riesling and Chardonnay making these some of the oldest blocks in Idaho. The vineyards are located in the beautiful Snake river valley of southwestern Idaho and the quality of the grapes is the result of the true "terroir" of the area.
Dr. Ron Bitner is a professional entomologist (www.pollination.com) receiving his PhD in 1976 from Utah State University. His work with bees has allowed him to travel extensively nationally and Internationally. Since 1995 he has spent nine seasons working in Australia with his bees, but also enjoying the Australian wine country. This Australian experience has lead to the plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz (as the Aussies say) to produce Austrailian style wines. Ron is currently a member of the Idaho Grape Growers and Wine Producers Commission and Secretary/Treasurer of the National Wine Grape Growers of America Association.
Bitner Vineyards sells grapes to several of the Idaho wineries. In 1995 they began selling Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes to Koenig Distillery and Winery. Greg Koenig has won much recognition and many awards for these wines. In 1997 Greg began making small quantities of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Chardonnay which Ron and Mary proudly market under the Bitner Vineyards label. Wines may currently be purchased from the Idaho State Liquor Dispensaries throughout the state. Our tasting room is open from 12pm-5pm Saturday and Sunday. Our doors first opened on memorial weekend and we did our grand opening on September 1st along with our harvest party, as we celebrated our 24th year of harvest. (click on tasting room above for a map and directions). We are Starting a Page about the Wine Dogs Of Idaho, please continue to come back and read all the new updates and all the dogs that help out in all the Idaho Wineries.
