Celebrate the first day of summer with Barbera 2019 Release

Celebrate the first day of summer with Barbera 2019 Release.
A unique and very special grape variety in Idaho,
this Barbera will be the last vintage sold at Bitner Vineyards.
2019 BARBERA

Doc Ollie Block
300 Vines. No Mechanism. No Round-Up.

This Barbera was farmed by our dear friend and neighbor, Dr. Steve Ollie. Each vine cared for by Ollie, who genuinely loves the earth and beauty of Idaho. He aimed to harvest each grape as naturally and uniquely as the Sunnyslope region, backdropped by the untouched beauty of the Owyhee Mountains.

Barbera is a unique grape variety in Idaho that we are blessed to share with you. This Barbera showcases the terroir of the sun-drenched Snake River Valley. On the nose, you’ll find herbaceous and berry aromas. This fruit-forward expression has subtle and well-integrated flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla. The finish lingers, leaving you with a deep sense of place — the bliss of Idaho’s high desert region.

Doc Ollie Barbera Vineyard Sold at Bitner Vineyards - Case Production
2019: 46 cases
2018: 79 cases
2017: No vintage
2016: 66 cases
2015: 22 cases

Gold,
Idaho Wine Competition 2019

Retired bee biologist Ron Bitner is among the champions in Idaho for the early-ripening Spanish red grape, and his proprietary name for this marquee bottling of Tempranillo pulls from the Basque term “beehive.” His longtime winemaker and friend, Greg Koenig, worked with Dale Jeffers’ fruit from the breadbasket that is Skyline Vineyards for an incredibly complex and spicy Tempranillo. It’s loaded with blackberry and cherry, cured meat and coffee notes that trail off with a long, savory element.
”Erle” is bee and “Etxe” is house. Put together, these words form beehive or where the bees live. Erletxe. Pronounced “air” and then “ leche” (just like milk in Spanish.)

Celebrate World Bee Day with Bitner Vineyards Dry Rose - Worker Bee Collection

World Bee Day is May 20, 2025. Every year on this date, the global public is reminded of the importance of preserving bees and other pollinators.
Join us in celebrating this special day with our newly released
2024 Dry Rose - Worker Bee Collection

The Worker Bee Collection Series /  Dr. Ron Bitner, internationally known bee biologist has worked with bees for over 50 years. He is on the Board of Directors of the Pollinator Partnership and has been the principal investigator of a multi-year survey of native bees in the Treasure Valley, which pollinates the crops of southwest Idaho. To date, 72 distinct species have been identified. This vintage, we celebrate Halictus ligatus, a species of sweat bee from the family Halictidae, among the species that mine or burrow into the ground to create their nests. This bee is classified as a “generalist,” meaning it is known to feed on a wide variety of flowers. One of their favorites is the dandelion early in the spring, which is rendered here beautifully by artist Felicia Weston.

Pollinator Partnership (www.pollinator.org) has a wealth of information and resources to help protect, preserve, and promote bees and other pollinators.
